Where was Reese for the past two and half weeks?

I was strolling through the Rocket Garden, lunching with an astronaut, inspecting cruise ships and having business meetings with Mickey (the mouse).  All this within an hour’s drive of Orlando!   Who doesn’t want to spend time in sunny Florida?

I visited friends in the Fort Lauderdale and Vero Beach area.  I had visited both places before but let’s talk about Disney World, and the Space Coast (including Coco Beach & Port Canaveral).  I was attending a conference at Disney World with their 47 square miles of hotels and amenities.   I took the opportunity to visit some of their 25 hotels and four theme parks:  Magic Kingdom, Epcot, The Disney MCM studios, Animal Kingdom, two water parks, and 99 holes of golf on different courses.  You need days to see it all.  Disney World’s excellent transportation system within the park makes it easy to navigate.   Disney has been testing new wrist bands, called “MagicBand”, these bands make it easy to enter your room and charge purchases to your account from their over 80 restaurants and numerous shops.

Disney is magical. There is so much to see and do in Disney.  You can see the wonder and amazement in the expressions of the children and adults alike. I was able to tape the electric parade which is a must see at Magic Kingdom (check my website:  www.reesestravel.com).   After you have done Disney World take a dream Disney Cruise.   You will love it!  There is super entertainment like no other.

The Orlando area also has many other attractions such as Sea World Orlando, wildlife tours, water parks, shopping, etc.  In September, I visited Universal Studios, and had a great time.

Moving south to the Space Coast, we visited Port Canaveral, where you can board the Disney Cruises, Carnival Cruises, and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. You can spend a great time before or after you board one of the cruises. I went aboard some of these ships and checked out the cabins and amenities.

Coco Beach is a beautiful town. The Coco Beach pier is a great place to stroll, to watch the surfers, to fish from, and to see “Pepe” (I gave him that name), the friendly pelican.  There have excellent hotels and things to do in the area such as kayaking, helicopter rides, golf, casinos, and of course, the river tours where you will see dolphins, manatees and all kinds of wildlife.  I was very impressed by the fact that you can stand in the Indian River (in 3-4 feet of water) for miles on end.

The Kennedy Space Center is right around the corner with their Rocket Garden, children play dome, an array of interactive simulators, the Astronaut Encounter, and the Lunch with an Astronaut.   We were fortunate to meet John McBride a four time space traveler.   He explained the rigorous process that the astronauts must go thru, including how they had to train to use the toilet.  Everyone enjoyed the talk.  I will never take gravity for granted again.

At Port Canaveral, we were one of the first visitors to explore the brand new Port Welcome Center (they will open next Thursday, 11/5/2013).  The Center has a state-of-the-art interactive exhibit, including historical sites from the Spanish exploration, revolutionary battles and the space exploration.  The observation deck on the top floor provides a stunning view of the Space Coast.
